Home Maintenance Tips | December 2025

December brings the heart of winter—and with it, a mix of chilly mornings, cozy nights, and a few holiday to-dos around the house. This month’s home maintenance checklist is all about staying warm, preventing damage, and setting yourself up for a smooth start to the new year.

  1. Inspect Window Seals on Windows

Check for moisture or frost between panes and reseal any weak spots to prevent drafts and condensation buildup.

2. Check Outdoor Lighting and Pathways

Shorter days mean darker evenings—replace burnt-out bulbs and make sure walkways are well lit and free of ice or debris.

3. Protect Pipes from Freezing

Wrap exposed pipes in unheated areas like garages or crawl spaces, and open cabinet doors on especially cold nights to keep warm air flowing.

4. Deep Clean and Vacuum Heating Vents

Keep air flowing efficiently by removing dust from registers and vents. It helps your system run smoother (and your air stay cleaner).

5. Clear Dryer Vent and Lint Trap

If you didn’t get to it last month, now’s the time! Clean vents help prevent fires—especially important during holiday laundry marathons.

6. Check Fire Extinguishers

Make sure your fire extinguisher is easily accessible and hasn’t expired—holiday cooking and candles make this a good safety check.

7. Tidy Up the Garage or Entryway

Create a clean landing zone for boots, coats, and wet gear to help keep the rest of your home dry and clutter-free.

8. Plan for January Projects

Use those slower winter weekends to start a list of home goals for the new year—whether it’s painting, organizing, or tackling that long-postponed upgrade.
